How do the spirals found on pine cones relate to Fibonacci numbers?

Needed Tech and Tools

Collect pine cones from your neighborhood. Collect as many types that you can!

Look at one of the pine cones.

Do the scales of the pine cone form regular spirals...some going to the left (hand) and some go to the right (hand)?

How do the spirals on the base of a pine cone relate to the spirals found on the sides?

Mark each spiral of your pine cone with a different colored embroidery cord.

Attach the cords to the pine cones with glue.

Investigate the number of left-hand versus right-hand spirals.

*If pine cones are not available, you can substitute a pineapple.
